Hi Everyone! It’s Nate.

On November 7th, Hiromi and I went to Tanzan Sake Brewery to participate (参加する)in an online event. The brewery’s president gave a tour of the brewery and explained how sake is made.  Our job was to translate what the president said into English for the people listening in San Diego, California in the United States. 

Learning about the brewery and how sake is made was very interesting. Another part of the event was sake tasting(利き酒). I tasted the sake and explained it to the people listening. I realized (気づいた)that explaining (説明する) the taste of sake is difficult. Before the event, I researched the words that sommeliers (ソムリエ)use to explain wine. That helped a lot. I didn’t really like nihonshu before, but I liked the kind I tried at the event. It was daiginjo, which is high quality. 

After the event was over (終わったら), the president gave us a few bottles!

This is a picture from inside the brewery. One staff member is showing us how they stir the sake that is brewing in the tank. He said they do it once in the morning and once in the evening. The mixture of all the ingredients he is mixing is called moromi, or mash.

Here’s me tasting four different kinds of sake. They were all great, but explaining their taste was a little hard.

    What an experience!
    I’ve never drank Tanzan sake before, but I’d like to try it.
    Is it sweet(amakuchi) or dry(karakuchi)?

      Hi Yoshie, Tanzan has both types. I think you can go to Tanzan (near Amity) and taste the different kinds of sake and choose the one you like! (多分!)
